Eating Disorders
If you’re struggling with an eating disorder, you might feel caught in a cycle of thoughts and behaviors that can be difficult to break. These challenges can look different for everyone, but here are some signs that you might be dealing with an eating disorder:
Constantly thinking about food, weight, or your body shape.
Feeling dissatisfied with your appearance, no matter how much you try to change it.
Restricting food, avoiding certain foods, or feeling fear or guilt around eating.
Experiencing episodes of binge eating or engaging in purging behaviors like vomiting, over-exercising, or using laxatives.
Finding food textures, smells, or the act of eating itself stressful or unappealing.
Struggling with perfectionism, impulsivity, or low self-worth.
Facing other challenges like anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, or substance use alongside disordered eating.
Experiencing judgment, stigma, or discrimination because of your body size.
My approach to treatment always begins with meeting you where you are—honoring your readiness for change and tailoring our work to your unique needs and goals. I believe lasting progress comes not from fear or pressure, but from fostering intrinsic motivation, creativity, and self-compassion. Depending on your preferences and the severity of your challenges, we might take a gradual, “slow and steady” approach focused on exploring your beliefs about food and your body, incorporating social justice and body acceptance strategies, or building a recovery-based identity rooted in your values. Alternatively, we might engage in more structured interventions using evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which could include eating challenge meals together, meal logging, or practicing body image exercises to strengthen emotional resilience. I embrace a Health at Every Size® philosophy, and with your enthusiastic consent, I can coordinate with your medical team to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care that supports your physical and emotional well-being.
With extensive experience treating all forms of eating disorders, I am here to help you navigate this challenging yet eye-opening journey of recovery. I completed my predoctoral internship at Kaiser Oakland in their outpatient eating disorders clinic, then went on to complete my postdoctoral fellowship at Kaiser Walnut Creek in their teen and adult Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program (EDIOP). If you are suffering, I strongly encourage you to reach out for help. I am committed to skillfully helping you find freedom from your eating and body image struggles.
“Living with an eating disorder takes extraordinary fortitude. And when that energy can be circumvented in a different way, incredible things can happen.” – Anna Sweeney
